Site maps can improve Search Engine Optimisation by making sure every page on your site can be found.
An XML site map lists pages on a web site that are available for crawling by search engines, thereby ensuring that the search engines are aware of all of your pages, it also allows us to include additional information about each page, for example when it was last updated, how often it changed, and how we rate each page's importance compared to other pages in the site.
There are many, often free tools to help you to create the XML site map - a quick search will find them.
Once created the site map is uploaded to the root directory via FTP and Google should be informed of its location.
