Adding Title Attributes to Your Links

NOTE: The Pink Mayhem guides are intended to be introductory rather than exhaustive - please contact us if you wish to know more.

The Title attribute although not required - increases your site's usability level and aids site promotion. Many search engines read the text in title attributes as extra page content - they also increase your keyword density. See our guide to Search Engine Optimisation for more information on keyword use.

You can see an example of the title attribute in action if your roll your mouse over any link in this page (note that this does not work in all browers - but it is still worthwhile doing).

Benefits

  • Helpful for visitors with disabilities
  • Adds to your page content
  • Increases your page's keyword density score
  • Can provide additional valuable information to all your visitors

You can use the title attribute for almost any page element, for example tables and individual rows - if you use them.

Here's How

This is how a typical link without the attribute appears:

<a href="index.html">Link One</a>

This is a link with the added attribute:

<a title="This is The Description" href="index.html">Link One</a>

And this is how it looks:

Link One
