Creating a Brand - Where to Begin

• Identify what your business is good at – get help from all concerned with your business, including employees and customers – do you have special skills, a unique or innovative product or that you deliver high quality customer service, or that you offer good value.
• Make sure that the name and branding of your products or services follow your business in a logical or complementary way – so they will reinforce each other.
• Your company website is your shop window, make sure it reflects your company, its personality and products.
• Get a logo designed professionally, make sure it reflects the services and personality of the company, and that it is used everywhere, including on invoices and email footers.
• You may want to create a slogan, or memorable phrase, this is likely to be used on the web and will be viewable via a search engine result, so it needs to be concise and focus on what your business is good at.
• How you and your employees dress and conduct themselves with contribute to the personality of your company, if your business is a creative one, wearing jeans and casual behaviour is fine and may enhance your creative image – if it’s financial services your customers want to know you are focussed and more serious – choose an policy that suits your company and it products.
